For the past 15-plus years, James Sereno has runs Kinetic Productions, a production firm that has changed the face of advertising and broadcast production in the state of Hawaii.
Sereno has never lost the drive and passion he had when first becoming bit by the directing bug, which took him from the streets of Kapahulu to the hallowed halls of the prestigious University of Southern California Film School where he graduated with a degree in Cinematic Arts. Upon graduating, Sereno honed his skills in development at Disney Studios and Columbia Pictures. Thereafter, he joined Team-One Advertising where he produced spots for Lexus and America West Airlines, winning a coveted Cannes Bronze Lion for his America West spot, Mosh Pit.
His desire was to move back to the islands to share his newfound knowledge and passion for commercial production by bringing the best of both worlds--bridging the local values and sensibility of the islands with the forward-thinking and innovation of the Mainland.
Today, Sereno runs one of the most successful production company in the state. This is testament to the values that he has held consistent since starting his company 15-plus years ago---attack each client with the same passion and drive and tell really good, honest stories. Under his direction, Kinetic Productions can boast winning an innumerable amount of Pele Awards, including "Best of Show." Sereno was also recognized as "Young Adman of the Year" & "Adman of the Year" and was invited by Roger Ebert to showcase his film narrative work at Ebert's Ebertfest.
Sereno returned to narrative storytelling was the short film entitled, "Silent Years" which won numerous awards including first runner up at the exalted British Academy Awards, L.A. (BAFTA/L.A). He recently directed and produced the feature film, "Paradise Broken," a gritty drama about the underbelly of Waikiki and produced the feature films, "Hang Loose," and "Man Up" the later distributed by Lakeshore Entertainment.
For more than 20 years, Susan Ishizu has worked at the top television station, the top production companies, and has worked with some of the best talent in the Hawaii production community.
As executive producer for Kinetic Productions, she supports the efforts of agencies, clients, directors and crew. She also keeps the budget in line while supporting the creative with integrity and projected calmness.
Ishizu is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. In her spare time she enjoys shopping, reading, spending time with her family.
Ryan Kawamoto has been with Kinetic Productions for over 10-plus years where he has established himself as a television and film director with a flair for storytelling.
His advertising clients have included Island Insurance, First Hawaiian Bank, McDonald's of Hawaii, the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, Farmers Insurance Hawaii and Burger King.
Kawamoto was recognized as the 2012 American Advertising Federation Hawaii "Advertising Man of the Year" as well as the "Outstanding Young Ad Person of the Year" by Ad 2 Honolulu. He has numerous Pele Awards, including two "Best of Show" Awards.
He recently directed two feature films, "Hang Loose," an Asian American comedy starring Kevin Wu aka KevJumba, Dante Basco (Hook), and Justin Chon (Twilight, 21 & Over). The film was nominated for Best Feature at the 2012 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. His second film, "The Untold Story: Internment of Japanese Americans in Hawai'i" ran theatrically and aired on PBS Hawaii.
In his spare time, Kawamoto mentors students for the PBS Hawaii TV series "Hiki No" and is a recent graduate of the Pacific Century Fellows program. He also enjoys blogging about his culinary adventures.
Kawamoto was born, raised, and continues to reside in Hawai'i.
As a writer, producer and director, Roy Kimura has witnessed and shared the stories of Hawaii. As a director documenting the Molokai Hoe and Na Wahine O Ke Kai, he saw the fortitude of men and women crossing the Ka‘iwi Channel in six-man outrigger canoes. In “Dream Big: Nanakuli At The Fringe,” he chronicled how students living in one of the most socio-economically challenged communities on Oahu use performing arts as a means to reach for their dreams and hopes. Through his work with Hawaii Pacific Health and Kapi‘olani Medical Center For Women and Children, Roy has seen how the love, devotion and skills of medical professionals save lives and answer prayers on a daily basis. As a Vice-President at PBS Hawaii, he saw how much the residents of rural Hawaii, many of whom have only a rabbit-ear antenna, depend on a broadcast station focused on sharing the stories of Hawaii.
Whether it’s through a one-hour program showcasing the music and stories of Jerry Santos, or a thirty-second commercial about how a pickup truck factors into one’s daily life, Roy Kimura has used storytelling to reach his audience. And with each project he digs into, he always looks to touch someone…to influence, to persuade, or to just take a moment to experience.
Raised by a pack of wolves who were surprisingly proficient in Final Cut Pro, Jay naturally developed a deep appreciation for community, and found his calling in the world of TV and Film.
Aggressive yet disciplined, as an alpha director he hunts for the freshest and juiciest of ideas. Do not cross him during a hunt or he may growl at you for up to 20 mins.
Fostered with a strong sense of teamwork and giving back, his recent non-profit TV commercial work with Ad2 Honolulu has garnered multiple national first place awards as well as local Pele gold.
Those that he's run wild with include Hawaii Pacific Health, Levi's Strauss, Hawaiian Electric, Star Advertiser, Aloha United Way, American Savings Bank, and the Hawaii Presidential Center.

Mathew wants to live in a world filled with great films, truly unlimited data without throttling, and an infinite supply of race fuel and tires.
As he's grown with Kinetic over the last 10 years, he's done work for clients like Aloha United Way, Hawaii Pacific Health, Island Insurance, American Savings Bank (and more), in various roles from Directing the Photography to assembly of the final piece. He recently cut and colored Hawaiian Airline's safety video, now being shown online and every flight to and from the islands.
When he's not managing the assortment of edit bays and archives in the office, you can find him turning a wrench on his car that's not broken, swapping tires and racing them clean off, or flying a 6-bladed drone and not hitting anything.
Ashley has worked in film and television production for the past 15 years. Within the past 5 years she has been transitioning into photography and used her production contacts to gain photography clients such as Hawaiian Electric Company, Aloha United Way, Hawaii Five-0(TV series), The Last Resort (TV Series), and various musicians, actors and models.
